International Youth Day
5/8/2021: On August 12th the International Youth Day is celebrated! It is a day of action launched by the United Nations to raise awareness and find solutions to the needs and challenges of youth.
The moment is now
International Youth Day is a day of action launched by the United Nations to raise awareness and find solutions to the needs and challenges of youth. And the young peope of today have enough challenges: climate change, youth unemployment, social isolation caused by the pandemic.
The young people who grow up and live in CONCORDIA family-like care houses have a few more worries on top of that. They havn`t been fortunate enough to grow up in a lovely family and to experience the necessary support within their families of origin. And those who are able to grow up with their families often lack the basic needs. Without the opportunity to get educational support, youth in poverty get involved in gangs, drugs and other dangerous activities.
This must be prevented. We therefore start our education programme in early childhood, equipping young people with the necessary skills to lead self-determined and happy lives.
Young people who have to grow up in care institutions need more support, especially in the transitional phase from adolescence to young adulthood. When they turn 18, state institutions feel no longer responsible for them. Apart from this, there is a lack of resources in child and youth welfare in many countries. So it is in the Republic of Moldova.
This makes it all the more important to promote safe spaces, therapeutic attention, networking opportunities and the exchange of information among young people. One such place is the CONCORDIA Youth Club in Chișinău/Republic of Moldova. There young people receive important guidance, which enables them to take their lives into their own hands and to actively participate in society.
We believe in youth and their potential to shape the present and the future. Again and again the young people from our programmes amaze us with how they go and master their way despite all obstacles and difficulties on the way.
